We are committed to developing a true partnership with our parents that helps us to create a childcare environment that offers high standards of care and a learning environment to ensure that every child's needs and interests are consistently met. We provide unrivalled childcare in a safe, happy environment that provides exciting opportunities and challenges, for every child to play, learn and develop.

At Buttons your child will enjoy interacting with other children and our staff in an atmosphere that is not only nurturing, but where their individuality is encouraged and respected. At Buttons we believe that there is no greater responsibility than giving a child the best possible start in life.

The first language spoken in the nursery is English, however Welsh is introduced on a daily basis through songs and other activities.

Buttons was established in 2000 by the owner and Managing Director Lisa Hine, not out of ambition to build a business but to provide quality childcare for her three children. Lisa is still very much involved, ensuring that the high standards demanded for her own children from the onset continue to be delivered today.

The Buttons approach to childcare is to respect and encourage every child's uniqueness and individuality, helping each child achieve and develop at their own pace. We provide a stimulating and safe environment which is purposely designed for young children, to keep them active and entertained all day.

Buttons is located in the Centre of Brecon, which makes us easily accessible. We have a recently refurbished safe secure private play area for the children’s daily use and full wheelchair access to our ground floor nursery and play area.

We are very proud of the skills, qualifications and experience of our staff. We have a greater proportion of fully qualified staff than many other nurseries. All of our staff are fully qualified.

Staff learning and motivation are of utmost importance and the nursery’s commitment to this is highlighted by the comprehensive learning program that we have in place. Staff are monitored and supported by a Supervisor and we provide a continuous professional development program to enable the staff to gain other relevant qualifications.

Our staff have further qualifications in specialist areas such as Child Protection, Health & Safety, Food Hygiene, First Aid, Positive Behaviour Management and Fire Safety. Supervisors have First Aid at Work qualifications, with all other staff having Paediatric First Aid training.

Staff that join the team at Buttons are subject to rigorous checks. Professional references are obtained and staff are cleared through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS clearance) prior to their start date. This is followed by a three month induction period to ensuring they continue to contribute to the high standard of care we expect at Buttons.

We offer a limited number of college placements for those interested in fulfilling a career in childcare. Trainees are closely supervised and are fully DBS checked prior to starting at the nursery.

Manager / Managing Director

Lisa Hine - Diploma in Nursery Nursing Level 3 and BA Honours Primary Initial Teacher Education

I opened Buttons Nursery in January 2000 and was motivated to do so when I was unable to find high quality childcare for my own children. I had over four year’s experience running a successful child minding business in Cardiff, which included caring for the children of members of the Welsh rugby team. I am a firm believer in treating every child as I would expect my own to be treated. As well as providing full developmental support my team and I provide emotional support to the children including frequent ‘cuddles’. This closeness that the staff have with the children is evident from visiting the nursery and is mentioned frequently in the nursery’s annual inspection reports. Since opening Buttons I have completed a BA (Hons) Degree in Teacher Training specialising in early years at the University of Worcester, qualifying as a teacher in 2008.

Deputy Manager

Gail Hughes - Diploma in Nursery Nursing Level 3 and Diploma in Business Management Level 3

With over 25 years of experience in Childcare and Business Management, I am the Nursery Deputy Manager at Buttons. I support daily operations, ensuring a high-quality, safe, inclusive environment. I deputise for the Manager, lead staff, oversee safeguarding, and maintain communication with parents and external agencies. I enjoy being part of a dedicated team that meets the needs of every child and parent.
